Born in London, Anil Barnes trained at Oxford and Kingston schools of architecture and became a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1987. He has worked in local government, for large and small architectural practices, and founded Indigo Design in 2005. His historic buildings CV includes working for Feilden & Mawson Architects, one of the UK's leading conservation practices, where he worked on the Grade I listed Foreign & Commonwealth Office building in Whitehall, London.
Anil also worked for internationally renowned practice RMJM where he designed a new school of medicine at the University of East Anglia. This £13m project incorporated the Termodeck system, an innovation which helps save energy through night-time cooling.
Anil is a registered Architect, a Chartered member of the RIBA and a member of the Association of Environment Conscious Building (AECB) - a network which aims to promote green building. His particular interest is in how architecture supports health and wellbeing. In his spare time he is a teaching member of the British Wheel of Yoga. He has run Architecture workshops in schools, gives talks about yoga and architecture, mentors architecture students, and helped out at the Citizens Advice Bureau for 16 years.
